Overview

Ruukki Group has ferrochrome and metal alloys production operations in Europe and South Africa. The Group targets to utilise low-cost raw materials and to achieve cost competitiveness and high and sustainable operating margins.

The Group’s European ferrochrome operations consist of mining and benefication in Turkey, smelting and processing in Germany through a toll manufacturing arrangement and procurement and sales in Malta. The business model is vertically integrated with a highly specialised product range concentrating on ultra-low and low carbon ferrochrome products. The products are sold globally to the special segment of stainless steel manufacturers, including the aerospace and automotive industries. The tailor-made nature of the product portfolio creates a competitive advantage in the market niche the Group operates.

The South African platform, created with the acquisition of Mogale Alloys, concentrates on minerals smelting operations. Mogale has a versatile product range consisting of charge chrome (FeCr), silico manganese (SiMn) and stainless steel alloy. Mogale has two DC furnaces and two submerged arc furnaces with a total smelting capacity of 96 MVA. The direct current (DC) furnace technology gives the Group flexibility in its production and allows the utilisation of lower-cost raw material sources such as UG2 feed thereby enhancing the cost competitiveness. Mogale’s products are sold worldwide.
