Currently the Board comprises seven members:


Jelena Manojlovic, Chairman of the Board

Ph.D. (Medicine), Clin. D. (Psychology), MA (Psychotherapy)
Born 1950

Jelena Manojlovic is currently organisational consultant and a university lecturer. She has 35 years’ experience from different positions working with people, teams and organisations internationally and in UK hospitals and universities. She has been the Chairman from 16 June 2009 and prior to that a member of the Board from 11 July 2008.


Philip Baum

B.Com and LL.B degrees and a Higher Diploma (Tax Law)
Born 1954

Philip Baum worked for Anglo American Group for 30 years in different positions, e.g. Alternate Director, Executive Director of Anglo American Corporation, Chief Executive of Anglo American Zimbabwe and COO of Anglo American Corporation of South Africa Limited. In 2003 he became CEO of Anglo American plc’s Ferrous Metals and Industries Division and a member of its Executive Committee, roles from which he retired in December 2009. He has held a wide variety of listed and unlisted non-executive director appointments. He has been a member of the Board from 21 April 2010.


Paul Everard

Mechanical Sciences (MA), Diploma of Management Studies, Advanced Management Program
Born 1940

Paul Everard is currently the Non Executive Director and Chairman of the HSEC, New World Resources N.V. Previously he worked for over 20 years in Shell and for over 30 years in different positions, e.g. Deputy CEO and CEO, in Billiton International Metals B.V., Gencor, Billiton Aluminium and Billiton BHP. In 2005, he was elected Honorary Life Member of the International Aluminium Institute. He has been a member of the Board from 21 April 2010.


Markku Kankaala

Born 1963

Markku Kankaala worked as a branch director in Ruukki Group Plc until 31 August 2006. Previously he worked for ten years as an entrepreneur in the wood products industry and before that in different positions in Ahlström and Rautaruukki. He was also the CEO of Ruukki Group Plc in 2003–2004. He has been a member of the Board from 30 June 2003. He also acts as a Board member of some of the Group’s wood processing subsidiaries.


Terence McConnachie

Born 1955

Terence McConnachie is currently CEO at Sylvania Resources Limited, Welprop Mining Services and SA Chrome and Alloys Limited as well as a major shareholder and CEO in Alumicor Ltd. He has 25 years of experience in mining industry and is the founder of South African Chrome & Alloys Ltd which is listed on the Johannesburg stock exchange. He has been a member of the Board from 7 October 2008.


Chris Pointon

BSc Hons (1st) (Earth Sciences and Chemistry), PhD (Geology)
Born 1948

Chris Pointon is currently the Director of the AIM listed European Nickel Plc and advises a number of companies in the mineral industry. He was the President of BHP Billiton’s Stainless Steel Materials Division until 2006. He led and developed BHP Billiton’s nickel business from its inception in Billiton Plc in 1996 to the world’s third largest nickel producer. He has over 35 years’ experience in the resources business, including exploration, operations management, mergers, post-transaction integration and change management. He has been a member of the Board from 21 April 2010.


Barry Rourke

Barry Rourke is a financial specialist with extensive international experience, particularly in the USA and Eastern Europe. He holds currently a number of non-executive director and Chairman positions, including the positions as an independent member of the Board of New World Resources NV, Chairman of the Board of 3Legs Resources plc, independent member of the Audit Committee of the Department for Energy and Climate Change, independent member of the DECC Coal Liabilities Strategy Board, non-executive director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Surrey and Borders Partnership Foundation Trust (the mental health trust of Surrey) and Chairman of the Board of Croydon Economic Development Company. He was a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers from 1984 to 2001. He has significant boardroom experience, with leadership and team working skills as well as extensive business and industry knowledge, particularly in the natural resource, engineering and construction sectors. He has been a member of the Board from 21 April 2010.

Alwyn Smit has been the CEO from 12 September 2008.


CFO

Ilona Halla

M.Sc. (Econ.), Certified Internal Auditor
Born 1961

Ilona Halla has worked as Ruukki Group Plc’s CFO since 5 February 2010 and before that as the company’s Chief Internal Auditor since 24 November 2009. Her latest position before Ruukki Group Plc was the Director of Internal Audit services in Ernst & Young Oy. Before that she was the Director for Management Assurance Services in KPMG Wideri Oy Ab. She has worked in different line management positions in e.g. Osuuspankkikeskus-OPK osuuskunta, Kemira Oyj and Outokumpu Oyj. She also has a wide experience in the Institute of Internal Audit globally and in Finland, and she has served as the Chairman of the Board of the Finnish Institute, as the Director of Northern and Central Europe and a member of the Board of the global head quarters in the USA, among other.

Danko Koncar

BSc Eng, MSc Eng, PhD

Dr Konchar holds degrees in electronic engineering and computing sciences, as well as a Diploma in Business & Foreign Trade, all from the University of Zagreb, Croatia.

Dr Konchar is presently the Chairman of Kermas Ltd, a company that is internationally recognised for its role in the ferroalloys industry. Under Dr Konchar’s leadership during the last ten years, Kermas has grown from a trading company to a large international investment corporation that operates its own assets, which include mining of chrome ore, production of different grades of ferrochrome and sales & marketing.

In 2005 Kermas successfully acquired Samancor Chrome in South Africa from BHP Billiton and Anglo American. Dr Konchar presided as the Chairman of Samancor Chrome until Nov 2009.

In Nov 2009 Dr Konchar was appointed as the CEO of Minerals of Ruukki Group Oyj, a public company listed on Helsinki Stock Exchange.

Dr Konchar started his professional career in the production and trade of machines and electronic goods and had successfully managed one of the leading organisations for electronic production in the former Yugoslavia. Regardless of his background in electronics and computing,
Dr Konchar has become one of the recognised and respected experts in ferroalloys, and as such has been sought after speaker on the international ferroalloys production & marketing conferences.
